BP and LCCIEB Pass the 4000 Mark
BP and LCCIEB Pass the 4000 Mark The 4000th National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) provided to BP by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examinations Board (LCCIEB) was presented at an awards ceremony in London on 19 June. LCCIEB has been working over the last 5 years with BP and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to develop a staff development programme that meets both BP's specific needs and the strict standard requirements of NVQs. ''We are very proud to have worked with BP in creating such a successful and beneficial programme.'' said LCCIEB CEO Liam Swords ''The NVQs have been implemented in a way that complements staff activities rather than interrupting them and provide employees with credible evidence of their skills. For many employees, this is the first formal qualification they have achieved. The result on productivity and staff morale is truly remarkable, and many BP staff are using their NVQ as a stepping stone to further qualifications.'' The awards ceremony celebrated the achievements of the 4000 frontline staff who have completed an LCCIEB NVQ through BP's Developing People programme and speakers included John Harwood, Chief Executive of the Learning and Skills Council and Ivan Lewis MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Young People. BP is developing the training programme further and new initiatives include the launch of a degree programme, an online learning programme and a commitment by the employer to support employees undertaking a Modern Apprenticeship. LCCIEB looks forward to working with BP to continue the success of the programme and implement effectively new initiatives.
