NVQs are assessment-based qualifications; they describe exactly what people should be able to do at work. They allow people to demonstrate their competence in the workplace. NVQs are about work, about the skills and competence needed to perform effectively in a chosen job.
Because of their direct relevance to working practice, rather than theoretical know-how, they are of immense value to employers and therefore increase an individual's chance of career development.
